Essential Auction News
Welcome to the February newsletter that looks back on auction activity for the past month, January, and on a quarterly and annual basis as well. January 2023 was a busy month when compared with 2022, with 37 auctions being held in 2022 and 49 in 2023. It must be noted that the majority of these were sub 10 lots each.
Overall, the number of lots offered was up 74% and the amount raised up almost 52%. These double-digit increases were seen in both the residential and the commercial sector as well, but it should be borne in mind that January is always a relatively quiet month for auctions. The overall quarterly and annual change for lots offered is up 31% and 11% respectively, with the amount raised remaining broadly the same at £915M for the quarter ending January 2023 and £4.74bn for the year ending January 2023.
February has been a busy month so far, and I look forward to reporting to you in approximately 4 weeks’ time with the relevant statistics.
As always, I welcome any views and comments you might have about the newsletter or the wider market in general.
Please note the newsletter can also be viewed online. Kind regards David Sandeman davids@eigroup.co.uk P.S. Here at the Essential Information Group we maintain a database of virtually every property coming up for sale at auction as well as almost 900,000 lots that have been to auction in the past. It is fully searchable and allows you to identify properties coming up for sale that you might be interested in, and to see what similar properties have sold for in the past.
